Del Mar Derby: 63rd
August 28th, 2007The 63rd running of the Del Mar Derby – Grade II will be run this Sunday, September 2nd, with first place getting $250,000.
The 1 1/8-mile turf track in San Diego is where young three year olds get to show what they can do on grass in the most important racing year of their lives. The race is open to any three-year-old thoroughbred, with preference given to horses that won as two year olds or earlier this year.
The final weekend of the Del Mar Stakes will be sure to bring out the Hollywood types for California’s premiere thoroughbred action, as it does every year. The Derby will attract the top turf horses from around the world, many coming from the U.K. and the rest of Europe.
If you’re heading to the races don’t forget to get your pick four; it’s guaranteed $400,000 on the weekends throughout the stakes.
